it snowed last night...

we had a couple days of big wet flakes but this morning
it was all white!!

i live where it snows!

and i have snow cats, sapa, gina, silly cat and (two more to be named)

class is growing

we are up to about 10 children, yes sometimes its hard to know.
they are all lovely and play so beautifully together.

its starting to get cold at night and might even snow this week!

not a good blogger

and with out any feedback its not so fun

bluebirds...

this morning I opened my door and saw a bluebird!!! and then another and another a whole flock of bluebirds!!! it was so wonderful.


I am sure it must mean a really cold winter or something :)

first day today!

a different way to live...

I was driving down the road today listening to the local radio station from the res and the weather report came on and he said, "hey! it looks like a beautiful day outside."
and that was the weather report and it was absolutely true.

first enrolled child

I have fully enrolled one child for the first day on tuesday, its very different here, but really in a very nice way. Lots of people have been calling today as the first day get closer. It is very much about patience here.

Open house today...

Today is the first of a series of four open houses.
I'll post pictures soon of the kindergarten.
I have put most of my intention in creating a quiet calm space for the children, its a bit of a challenge considering there are about 15 or more young people who want to come in and use the comforts of home too!

we are here...

Chris and I arrived on monday, its been a whirlwind since we have arrived meetings, meeting people and settling in. The young people from IDEM are very interesting and have decided on a earth floor. the walls are just going up over the next few days. they have asked me how I want this or that but I have told them that I want it to be their house. it will be very small but cozy.

wyoming...

last night chris and i stayed in rawlins, wyoming. i guess its the gateway to yellowstone, because it was quite expensive! one more day of driving today and than we will be in south dakota.
I'm excited and nervous and ....

tomorrow

Wow, tomorrow is the day we leave, and of course, I'm not as ready as I should be. I had dinner last night with Matt in san francisco, so that was very nice, but a bit sad too.

I was dyeing with the Lifeways Spanish trainees in SF, it was very interesting, it was a real color expereince for me since they all spoke in Spanish. the colors where incredible and I think they really enjoyed it.

well, off to think more about packing anyway.

I just realized that the picture isn't the one with the trailer on it, go to the School site and you can see it, the one with the snow is a good one!!

A dirt Floor!!

Wow, I never thought I'd get excited about the possibility of having a dirt floor...the builders are trying to decided what to make the floor out of and clay is a possibility. If you look at the picture of the school my little house will be about where the trailer is, the trailer is gone and that is the easiest site to put a new structure on.

I leave in one week, one week yikes!! I have not accomplished everything I had hoped except for the old trisha standby, if you can't be all ready at least be relaxed.

more getting ready

I know that I have so much to do!! I made new curtains for Dustin's room, it felt good to do something special for him before I leave. I finished yesterday with unpacking, well, mostly, I have one basket of little thingys, I might just box them up and see if I ever miss any of it.

I've been dyeing like crazy, and would like to do more before I leave. And I just agreed to a big dyeing job-about 15 0r so 3 yard long pieces!!!

Lots of things are happening in Kyle, we set up some open days at the Kindergarten, they will begin working on the straw bale house this week and there is a whole big international work crew there right now!!!

Q'orianka Pilcher

She is a movie acress that played Pocahantas in a recent move, well, she is some how related to one of the young people from IDEM who are building the straw bale house. She is lending her support to the project and will be part of a documnetary film about the project.

Exciting news

Lots of exciting News, the IDEM workcamp people are starting to arrive in South Dakota, they drove up in a school bus!!! The bus is important because not everyone has a (working) car, hard to believe out here in California.

I am looking forward to meeting all the young people who will be doing the work, they are also painting the school, it used to be lighter in color and have a mural of a medicing wheel and that will be restored.

Next, it has been decided to build the straw bale house and it will be round. Of course, it will be very small too.

And families are starting to inquire about sending their children to the kindergarten.

now i just need to figure out what to take and what will actually fit into the trailer.

getting ready...

I thought that one thing I can do to get ready is to ready my blog! and practice writting on it so that when I really move it will already be a habit. I am still in the process of moving into my newhouse and need to start thinking about what I will need to bring with me.

Exciting news! The school has received a school bus, which is very important for getting children to the school. yeah!!
